Character: Eli Ever

Canon: Canon and the point in canon you are bringing them from.
Age: Villains series, post-Vengeful
History: Eli's entry in the Villains wiki
Personality:
  • In a word, perfect. Eli's known as the "golden boy" during his university years at Lockland — aside from his straight-A grades and being at the top of his class in the pre-med program, he comes off as charming, thoughtful, and charismatic.
  • However, when the pristine veneer is stripped away, Eli Ever seems like an entirely different person. Calculating, self-righteous, and manipulative, Eli believes that he is the arbiter of "God's Will" — and that his mission to murder all EOs in existence is justified by the fact that EOs (barring himself) have no soul.
  • Eli is generally apathetic by nature. He has a difficult time relating to others, and in his childhood was often seen as "strange" or "unnerving" because of his inability to behave like the other kids. As he grew up, he studied other people — their emotions, their expressions — and learned to "mimic" them well, such that he may appear normal to the average observer.
  • It should go without saying, but Eli is highly intelligent. He graduated at the top of his class in his university days; he was the one (mostly) responsible for connecting Near-Death Experiences (NDEs) to one's rebirth as an ExtraOrdinary (EO); and even in his captivity at EON during the events of Vengeful, he's able to easily solve cases that stumped even the best EON agent.
  • He's a very devoted person, though unfortunately, this mostly manifests in obsession and megalomania. He is so devoted to the mission he's given himself that he's deluded himself into thinking it was given to him by God. Similarly, his fixation on Victor Vale throughout the series can just about be summed up as a macabre obsession.
  • Eli cannot stand being outshone or questioned. Any threat to his intellectual or moral superiority triggers immediately hostility, quiet and calculated. It's very much a form of retaliation as a result of narcissistic injury.
Rogue, Noire or Random: Rogue
Magic, technology, or both/neither: Magic
Powers/Abilities: After being "reborn" as an ExtraOrdinary, Eli gained regenerative properties. As the name implies, Eli's body will recover from any wound, any injury, and trauma that is incurred without so much an inkling that said trauma had ever even occurred. However, this does not leave him invulnerable to the pain felt in the wake of these injuries; he can still very much feel it, and unlike his counterpart Victor, cannot "shut" the pain off/out.

Some caveats to note regarding Eli's abilities and his condition as an EO:
1. Eli stopped physically aging after he died in the icebath at age twenty-two. In other words, while he is technically older (anywhere between 23 and 37, depending on the timeline), his body will always remain that of his twenty-two year old self.
2. While his body heals all wounds sustained, it cannot remove foreign objects lodged in it, such as bullets and knives. If the object is large enough and remains in the wound, it can keep his body from healing, while if it is smaller, his body will heal around it.
3. Eli does not need to eat or sleep, though he does do so out of habit.
4. Eli is not affected by intoxicants, ie. liquor / drugs / anesthetics / etc.

Items:
  1.  A pair of glasses. He hasn't worn them since the Lockland University days (but there's presumably no contacts in Careforgot so he may have to start wearing them again).
  2. A silver crucifix on a silver chain. It doesn't leave his neck.
  3. There's also a bloody bullet in his jacket pocket. Presumably the bullet that killed him.
  4. Beyond that, probably just the clothes on his back.

Suitability: N/A

Writing Samples: My TDM post / TDM thread with Victor / Open post on my journal

Other Notes: I'm really really sorry about the problems him and his toxic situationship are going to cause in Careforgot.

The Villains series (Vicious, Vengeful) by V.E. Schwab is set in a modern universe wherein one can become an ExtraOrdinary ("EO") and be "reborn" with superhuman capabilities following a Near-Death Experience ("NDE"). The premise of the series is violent in its own right, and with respect to Eli specifically, there are several content warnings that one should be aware of prior to interacting with him, as they are prevalent in his character and in his backstory. They are:
Self-Harm; Death; Murder; Resurrection; Suicide; Drowning; Religious Extremism; Religious Psychosis; Substance abuse/overdose; Childhood abuse; Psychological Torture; Physical Torture; Medical Experimentation; Animal Death; Animal Injury; Sexual Assault (forced via mind control).
Given the nature of Eli's abilities, he is physically incapable of dying, sustaining major injury for more than a few seconds, or losing limbs/organs/etc (with some caveats, see his Information page for more on that). However, I am not opposed to pushing Eli's abilities to their absolute limit and/or putting him in situations where violence is prevalent.

If you would prefer not to interact with Eli, feel free to leave a comment below — I will never take it personally.

On the flip side, if you are interested in interacting with Eli and even integrating your character into something Villains-adjacent, feel free to leave a comment as well!

At twenty-two years of age, Eli Ever drowns himself in an ice bath in the name of scientific inquiry and his senior thesis for university. He is clinically dead, and then, he is alive again — though no longer human. Following this experience, Eli Ever is reborn as something called an ExtraOrdinary ("EO"). A living-dead man, with the ability to heal from any wound, any scrape, any fatal injury to his body: Eli ever has gained the power of regeneration and lost the mortal curse of death. It is a power that he attributes to God, a gift that he had ought to use to carry out the almighty's will: to exterminate all other EOs in existence; purge the world of their twisted existence.         So begins the bloodsoaked journey of the self-proclaimed hero.

ON THE SURFACE: Eli is an enigma, in the sense that there are very few people that have ever seen his "real" self, and instead have only been introduced to the facade he puts forth during his day-to-day. At first glance, Eli seems charismatic, charming, intelligent — in a word, perfect. He is a devoted Catholic, having practically been raised in the faith as his father was a pastor. In his days at Lockland University, he was studying science and was a candidate for the premed program, with the ultimate intention of becoming a doctor post-graduation. And in terms of grades, Eil's are pristine; he graduates university at the top of his class. From his even tone to his brilliant smile, there seems to be nothing one can point out that is inherently "wrong" about Eli. And yet, when you look a bit more carefully, you begin to find that some things aren't quite right after all.

BENEATH THE MASK: When the pristine, "golden boy" veneer is stripped away, Eli Ever seems like an entirely different person. Calculating, self-righteous, and manipulative, Eli believes that he is the arbiter of "God's Will" — and that his mission to murder all EOs in existence is justified by the fact that EOs (barring himself) have no soul. Their destructive nature is an affront to the divine, and as such, he has deluded himself into the belief that God gave him his powers and granted him his "rebirth" to act as his hand and destroy them.
Eli is generally apathetic by nature. He has a difficult time relating to others, and in his childhood was often seen as "strange" or "unnerving" because of his inability to behave like the other kids. As he grew up, he studied other people — their emotions, their expressions — and learned to "mimic" them well, such that he may appear normal to the average observer. Eli has oftentimes been described as two people at once: the perfection he presents to the world; and then the darkened, malignant thing beneath it.
